The Parish Council has sent the following letter to LCC Highways in October 2025 regarding the poor condition of Norton Disney Road out of the village towards Rinks Lane.

Dear Andy

Norton Disney Road - Carlton Le Moorland

Carlton le Moorland Parish Council discussed your message dated 24 August 2025 indicating that the outstanding work to reinstate Norton Disney Road would not now take place in 2026/27 as previously scheduled and notified.

The Parish Council and local residents were dismayed at this further delay and would be grateful if you could please revisit this decision. Although it is understandable that priorities have to be constantly revisited, we do not think that the full facts have been considered when this exercise was undertaken.

In particular, the deteriorating state of this road was first reported 12 years ago and since then the road surface near to the village has degraded to such an extent that it is impossible for vehicles to safely pass each other.

It is not just Carlton Le Moorland residents who use this road, many other people from the surrounding villages use it, especially as an alternative to the junction onto the A17 at Brant Broughton, which is so dangerous, as well as a considerable number of large agricultural vehicles and HGVs (particularly when the major routes such as the A17 is blocked).

In addition, the road is regularly used by local pelotons of cyclists, the atrocious state of the road means that they are forced to cycle in the middle of the carriageway and therefore it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.

The Parish Council believe that we have waited long enough for the identified essential repairs to be done. The road condition is becoming increasingly dangerous and will deteriorate even faster if no action is taken soon. If it is not possible to resurface the whole section of road from Carlton le Moorland to Norton Disney then we suggest that it would be cost effective and contribute to road safety to resurface a shorter part of it such as the section from Carlton le Moorland to Rinks Lane only and then fill in the worst sections from there to Norton Disney so that this part could be revisited at a later date.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Debbie Parker

Parish Clerk

Carlton le Moorland Pasrish Council

Yours sincerely
